All pupils in years 7 & 8 have one period of Drama and one period of music per week throughout the year.
In drama pupils in years 7 and 8 concentrate on improvisational role play and experience different dramatic techniques to improve their performance skills.
In music pupils in years 7 and 8 concentrate on composing and performance skills
In years 9, 10 and 11 pupils work towards the AQA GCSE in Drama and theatre arts. In music pupils work towards the Edexcel GCSE. Results at GCSE in Drama are good and in music they are improving.
We are also offer a Performing Arts BTEC course which will allow pupils to develop their acting skills and will result in a First Diploma (4 GCSE’s)
In years 12 and 13 pupils follow the Edexcel Drama course and the Edexcel Music A level. Again for the last two years results have been good with most pupils achieving above their targets. They are also given the choice of studying the new Performance Studies a level with OCR.
EXTRAS
Every year we run a number of theatre trips. We visit Stratford and London on a regular basis and we also visit the local theatres to see productions.
There are Drama Clubs available for years 7 and 8 and these run on a lunchtime.
With the Music Department we produce a Christmas Concert each year and a large scale production at Easter.
Pupils in all years are encouraged to be involved in the house Drama Competitions. These are very popular and great fun.
