The Curriculum

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

We currently use the Maths In Practice textbooks (published by Hodder Education) and follow the National Curriculum in Mathematics. Students also have functional skills incorporated into their lessons using a functional skills textbook (published by Collins)

Year 9  students use Maths Frameworking text books (published by Collins). Students take Optional tests in May. 4 tiers are available, matched to the ability of the student – levels 3-5, 4-6, 5-7 and 6-8.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11)

Years 10 and 11 are following the Module AQA Syllabus B (4307) GCSE in Mathematics the text books used are:

Set 1 SMP Interact Higher published by Cambridge University Press.
Set 2 SMP Interact Intermediate by Cambridge University Press.
Set 3, 4 and 5 follow the AQA Modular Foundation GCSE Maths by Pearson Longman.
Set 6 Follow SMP Interact Foundation by Cambridge University Press.

Key Stage 5 (Post-16)

A/S and A levels in Maths and Further Maths, GCSE resits and Numeracy level 1.

A/S & A level Mathematics & Further Mathematics.

We follow the AQA Mathematics Syllabus B course.

In Mathematics, the A/S level consists of 3 equally weighted modules, Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1.  The A Level course consists of Core 3, Core 4 and Mechanics 1. Further Maths consists of 4 Further Core modules and 2 Decision modules, 3 modules for A/S level and 6 for the A level.

Textbooks used are published by Cambridge University Press.

ICT

ICT is increasingly being incorporated into our KS3 and GCSE classes and schemes of work. Students have timetabled access to the Mathematics department’s computer suite.
